 Light

  • Prefers bright, indirect light

  • Tolerates medium light

  • Too little light → smaller leaves and slower growth

  • Direct sun → leaf scorch

 Water

  • Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil dry out

  • Keep soil evenly moist

  • Avoid soaking the soil

  • Overwatering → yellowing and root rot

  • Reduce watering slightly in winter

 Soil

  • Use a well-draining, loose potting mix

  • Ideal blend: potting soil + perlite + bark or coco coir

  • Prevents compaction and supports healthy roots

 Temperature & Humidity

  • Ideal temps: 65–80°F (18–27°C)

  • Avoid temps below 55°F (13°C)

  • Prefers moderate humidity

  • Can tolerate average household humidity

 Growth Habit

  • Self-heading, upright plant (not a climber)

  • Forms a dense clump with multiple stems

  • Slow to moderate growth rate

  • Leaves can reach 1–2 ft indoors

  • Propagation by division (not cuttings)

 Fertilizer

  • Feed every 4–6 weeks in spring and summer

  • Use a balanced liquid fertilizer

  • Avoid overfertilizing → leaf tip burn

  • Minimal feeding needed in fall/winter

 Common Problems

  • Yellow leaves: overwatering or poor drainage

  • Brown tips: dry air or inconsistent watering

  • Small leaves: insufficient light

  • Drooping: soil too wet or roots stressed

  • Slow growth: low light or cool temperatures
