Philodendron Xanadu 6”
Philodendron Xanadu 6”
Light:
• Bright, indirect light is ideal for the Xanadu. It can tolerate lower light conditions, but brighter light encourages fuller growth and more vibrant foliage.
• Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves and cause yellowing or browning.
Watering:
• Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry. Keep the soil evenly moist but avoid overwatering, which can lead to root rot.
• Water thoroughly until excess water drains out of the pot. Make sure your pot has drainage holes to prevent water from sitting at the bottom.
Humidity:
• Philodendron Xanadu prefers moderate to high humidity, ideally around 50-70%. It can adapt to average indoor humidity but will thrive in a more humid environment.
• To increase humidity, mist the plant occasionally, use a humidifier, or place the pot on a humidity tray filled with pebbles and water.
Temperature:
• The ideal temperature range for the Xanadu is between 65°F and 85°F. It can tolerate cooler temperatures but should not be exposed to anything below 50°F
• Avoid placing the plant near cold drafts, heating vents, or air conditioners that can cause sudden temperature changes.
Soil:
• Use a well-draining potting mix. A mix designed for aroids or houseplants with perlite or orchid bark added for aeration is ideal.
• Make sure the pot has drainage holes to avoid waterlogged soil.
Fertilizer:
• Feed your Philodendron Xanadu during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength every 4-6 weeks.
• Avoid over-fertilizing, and reduce feeding during the fall and winter months when the plant’s growth naturally slows.
Pruning:
• Prune to remove yellow, damaged, or dead leaves to maintain the plant’s appearance and encourage healthy growth.
• You can also prune the plant if it becomes too large for its space, as it can spread wide and grow quite large.
Repotting:
• Repot your Xanadu every 1-2 years or when it becomes root-bound. The best time to repot is in spring when the plant is actively growing.
• Choose a pot that is 1-2 inches larger than the current one to give the roots space to grow.
Pest Control:
• Philodendron Xanadu is generally resistant to pests but may attract spider mites, mealybugs, or scale on occasion.
• Inspect the leaves regularly for pests, and treat any infestations with neem oil or insecticidal soap.
Common Issues:
• Yellowing leaves: Often a sign of overwatering. Make sure the soil dries out between waterings and that the pot has good drainage.
• Browning edges or tips: This can indicate low humidity or underwatering. Increase the humidity around the plant or adjust your watering schedule.
• Leggy growth: If the plant stretches or becomes leggy, it may not be receiving enough light. Move it to a brighter location with indirect light.
Propagation:
• Philodendron Xanadu is usually propagated by division. During repotting, gently separate the root ball and plant each section in its own pot.
• Ensure each division has enough roots and foliage to thrive in its new pot.
General Tips:
• Rotate the plant every few weeks to ensure even growth and to prevent it from leaning toward the light.
• Wipe the leaves regularly with a damp cloth to remove dust and help the plant photosynthesize efficiently.
