Size

* The plant photos shown are our stock images used to represent the general appearance, size, and quality of the plant you’ll receive. Please remember that each plant is unique—natural variations in color, shape, and size are completely normal!

Light

  • Bright, indirect light is ideal — that’s how you’ll keep those variegated patterns bold and beautiful.

  • It can handle lower light, but the variegation might fade and growth will slow down.

  • Avoid harsh, direct afternoon sun; it can scorch the leaves.

Water

  • These guys are very drought tolerant.

  • Let the soil dry out completely between waterings. When in doubt, wait another week before watering.

  • Overwatering is the #1 way to harm it — soggy soil = root rot.

  • In winter, water maybe once every 4–6 weeks.

Soil

  • Use a fast-draining mix — something like cactus/succulent soil.

  • You can mix in extra perlite or pumice for even better drainage.

  • A pot with a drainage hole is non-negotiable!

Temperature & Humidity

  • Thrives in 65–85°F (18–29°C).

  • It’s fine with average indoor humidity.

  • Keep it away from cold drafts or vents — it’s not a fan of sudden chills.

Fertilizing

  • Feed lightly during the growing season (spring–summer) with a diluted succulent fertilizer once a month.

  • Skip feeding in fall and winter.

Other Tips

  • Dust the leaves occasionally to help it breathe and photosynthesize better.

  • If the leaf tips brown, it’s often from low humidity or a bit too much sun — trim them neatly with clean scissors if you like.

  • Variegated whale fins grow very slowly, so don’t panic if it doesn’t seem to be doing much. Patience is key!
