Light
-
Ideal: Bright, indirect light or some direct morning sun.
-
Outdoors, it thrives in partial sun to light shade.
-
Too little light will cause legginess and faded color.
Water
-
Water thoroughly when the soil is completely dry.
-
Be cautious—overwatering is the #1 killer. Leaves may become mushy or translucent.
-
In winter, reduce watering significantly.
Humidity
-
Prefers dry to average humidity.
-
Thrives in typical indoor environments.
-
Avoid excess humidity which can encourage rot.
Temperature
-
Ideal range: 65–80°F (18–27°C)
-
Tolerates short drops to 40°F (4°C), but protect from frost.
Soil
-
Use a well-draining succulent or cactus mix.
-
You can improve drainage by mixing in extra perlite or pumice.
Fertilizer
-
Feed monthly during spring and summer with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer.
-
Avoid over-fertilizing, which can cause leggy growth.
-
No need to fertilize in fall or winter.
Potting & Repotting
-
Use pots with drainage holes to prevent root rot.
-
Repot only when rootbound (every 2–3 years).
-
Grows well in hanging baskets or shallow containers.
Pruning & Propagation
-
Prune leggy stems to encourage fullness.
-
Propagate easily from stem cuttings. Let cuttings dry for a day, then place in soil—roots form quickly.
