Sensitive Plant 4"

Sensitive Plant 4"

Light:

Prefers partial shade to full shade. It thrives in dappled light but can tolerate some direct morning sunlight.

Avoid full sun exposure, as it can scorch the leaves.

Watering:

Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during the growing season (spring and summer).

Water when the top inch of soil feels dry, but avoid soggy conditions.

Reduce watering in fall and winter, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings.

Humidity:

Sensitive ferns prefer high humidity. They thrive in environments with humidity levels above 50%.

If your home is dry, consider misting the leaves regularly or placing the pot on a tray filled with water and pebbles to increase humidity.

Soil:

Use a well-draining potting mix that retains some moisture but allows excess water to escape. A mix designed for ferns or a combination of peat moss, compost, and perlite works well.

Good drainage is essential to prevent root rot.

Temperature:

Sensitive ferns prefer cool to moderate temperatures between 60°F and 75°F

Protect from temperatures below 50°F as they can suffer in cold drafts.

 Fertilizer:

Fertilize every 4-6 weeks during the growing season with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer.

No need to fertilize in fall and winter when the plant is dormant.

Pruning:

Remove any dead or yellowing fronds to encourage new growth and maintain the plant’s appearance.

Prune back damaged leaves, especially in late winter or early spring, to promote healthy new growth.

Pests:

Sensitive ferns are generally resistant to pests, but watch for common issues like aphids and spider mites.

Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil, and ensure good air circulation around the plant.

Propagation:

Sensitive ferns can be propagated through division. In early spring, divide the root ball into sections and replant them in separate pots.

Extra Tips:

Container Choice: Use a pot with drainage holes to prevent excess moisture from accumulating.

Seasonal Changes: Sensitive ferns may go dormant in the winter, during which they may lose some fronds. This is normal, and new growth will emerge in spring.
