Light
-
Bright, indirect light is ideal
-
Tolerates medium light, but leaves may get smaller with less silver
-
Avoid direct sun—it can scorch the leaves
Water
-
Water when the top 2 inches of soil are dry
-
Likes evenly moist soil, but never soggy
-
Overwatering = yellow leaves and root rot
Soil
-
Needs a well-draining, airy mix
-
Good option:
-
Potting soil
-
Perlite or pumice
-
Orchid bark or coco chips
-
This keeps roots happy and prevents compaction.
Humidity
-
Prefers moderate to high humidity (50–70%)
-
Will tolerate average home humidity, but higher humidity = bigger, prettier leaves
Temperature
-
Thrives in 65–85°F (18–29°C)
-
Avoid cold drafts and temps below 60°F (15°C)
Fertilizer
-
Light to moderate feeder
-
Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer
-
Use a balanced houseplant fertilizer at ½ strength
Growth Habit & Training
-
Naturally a trailer, but can also climb
-
Giving it a moss pole or trellis can encourage:
-
Larger leaves
-
More pronounced silver pattern
-
Maintenance
-
Rotate for even growth
-
Wipe leaves occasionally (those velvety leaves collect dust!)
-
Prune to keep it bushy—cuttings root easily in water or soil
