Light
-
Prefers bright, indirect light to keep its pink and cream variegation vibrant.
-
Can tolerate medium light, but colors may fade and growth may slow.
-
Avoid direct sun, which can scorch the variegated edges.
Water
-
Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil are dry.
-
As a semi-succulent peperomia, it stores water in its leaves—overwatering is the most common problem.
-
Keep on the slightly drier side, especially in winter.
Humidity
-
Enjoys average household humidity, but can tolerate slightly higher or lower levels.
-
Very dry air may cause mild leaf curling.
Temperature
-
Ideal range: 65–80°F (18–27°C).
-
Keep away from cold drafts and temperatures below 55°F (13°C).
Soil
-
Use a light, fast-draining potting mix.
-
A blend of potting soil + perlite + a little orchid bark or sand works well.
-
Avoid compact or moisture-heavy soils.
Fertilizer
-
Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a diluted balanced fertilizer.
-
Skip fertilizing in fall and winter.
Pruning & Maintenance
-
Remove yellowing, wilted, or damaged leaves.
-
Naturally bushy but can be lightly pruned to shape.
Propagation
-
Propagate via leaf cuttings or stem cuttings.
-
Stem cuttings root faster; leaf cuttings root slowly but reliably.
Common Issues
-
Yellow, mushy leaves: overwatering.
-
Wrinkled or droopy leaves: underwatering.
-
Leggy growth: insufficient light.
-
Pests: watch for mealybugs or fungus gnats.
Pet Safety
- Peperomias are non-toxic to pets, making them a great option for homes with cats and dogs.
