Light:
-
Prefers bright, indirect light.
-
Can tolerate medium light but will grow more slowly.
-
Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves or fade the color.
Water:
-
Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil are dry.
-
Water thoroughly, allowing excess water to drain away.
-
Do not let the plant sit in water; it’s sensitive to root rot.
-
In winter, reduce watering frequency as growth slows down.
Humidity & Temperature:
-
Thrives in average household humidity (40–60%).
-
Likes temperatures between 65–80°F (18–27°C).
-
Keep away from cold drafts and heating vents.
Soil:
-
Use a light, well-draining mix. A good blend is:
-
2 parts peat or coco coir
-
1 part perlite
-
Optional: a small amount of orchid bark for better aeration
-
Fertilizer:
-
Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a diluted, balanced houseplant fertilizer.
-
Do not fertilize in fall or winter.
Pruning & Maintenance:
-
Remove any damaged or yellowing leaves to maintain appearance.
-
Wipe leaves gently with a damp cloth to keep them dust-free.
-
Pinch back growing tips to encourage bushier growth if desired.
Pests:
-
Occasionally susceptible to mealybugs and fungus gnats if overwatered.
-
Treat infestations early with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
Pet Safety
- Peperomias are non-toxic to pets, making them a great option for homes with cats and dogs.
