Lemon Cypress 4"

Light Requirements

Lemon Cypress needs bright, direct light to maintain its vibrant color. Outdoors, place it in full sun, where it gets at least 6-8 hours of sunlight daily.

Indoors, place it near a south- or west-facing window. If adequate sunlight isn’t available indoors, consider using a grow light.

Watering

Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water thoroughly when the top inch of soil feels dry, allowing excess water to drain.

Lemon Cypress is sensitive to both over- and under-watering, so avoid letting the soil dry out completely, especially indoors where air tends to be drier.

In winter, reduce watering slightly as the plant’s growth slows.

Humidity and Temperature

Lemon Cypress enjoys moderate to high humidity. Indoors, dry air can cause browning of the foliage, so misting or placing a humidifier nearby can be helpful.

Ideal temperatures are between 50-72°F. Avoid placing it near heating vents, fireplaces, or air conditioning units, as temperature extremes can stress the plant.

Soil

Use a well-draining, slightly acidic to neutral potting mix. A cactus or succulent mix works well, or you can amend regular potting soil with sand or perlite for improved drainage.

Make sure the pot has drainage holes to prevent root rot.

Fertilizing

Feed your Lemon Cypress with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring. This will give it the nutrients needed for growth.

Avoid over-fertilizing, as it can lead to weak growth. Fertilizing once per year is typically sufficient.

Pruning and Shaping

Lemon Cypress can be pruned to maintain shape and control size. Lightly trim any unruly or leggy branches to keep it compact and tidy.

Pruning is best done in early spring before new growth starts. Avoid heavy pruning, as it may not regrow from the old wood.

Repotting

Repot every 2-3 years or when it becomes root-bound. Use a pot that’s only one size larger than the current one to avoid excess soil that retains too much water.

Repotting is ideally done in spring, using fresh soil to promote healthy growth.

Pest and Disease Control

Lemon Cypress is generally pest-resistant but can sometimes attract spider mites or aphids, especially in dry indoor conditions. Inspect regularly, and treat any infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil if needed.

To prevent fungal issues, ensure good air circulation around the plant and avoid letting the foliage sit wet for extended periods.

Seasonal Care

If grown outdoors, Lemon Cypress is hardy in USDA zones 7-10. In cooler climates, bring it indoors before the first frost.

Indoors, keep an eye on humidity levels in winter, as indoor heating can dry out the air and affect the plant’s health.
