The Fairy Castle Cactus (Acanthocereus tetragonus 'Fairy Castle') is a super cute and low-maintenance cactus that totally lives up to its whimsical name!
🌞 Light
This cactus loves bright light. A sunny windowsill (preferably south or west-facing) is ideal. If you’re keeping it indoors and it starts stretching out (getting leggy), that’s a sign it’s craving more sunshine.
💧 Water
The golden rule: less is more.
-
Spring/Summer (active growing season): Water thoroughly but only when the soil is completely dry. Think once every 2–3 weeks.
-
Fall/Winter (dormant time): Cut back watering a lot—maybe once a month or even less.
Too much water = root rot = cactus sadness 😢
🌵 Soil
Use a cactus or succulent mix, which drains super well. If you're making your own mix, combine potting soil with sand or perlite.
🪴 Pot
Make sure your pot has drainage holes! Fairy Castles do not like wet feet.
🌡️ Temperature & Humidity
-
Loves warmth: 70–95°F is the sweet spot.
-
Keep it above 50°F.
-
Dry air is totally fine—no humidity needed.
🌸 Bonus: Flowers?
They can bloom (white or yellowish), but it's rare indoors. When they do, it’s usually on older, well-established plants.
✂️ Pruning/Propagation
Not much pruning needed unless it’s growing oddly. You can snip off a healthy arm and let it callous over for a few days, then plant it to grow a new cactus!
