Light
-
Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain vibrant pink, cream, and green variegation.
-
Can tolerate medium light, but colors may fade.
-
Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
Water
-
Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy.
-
Water when the top inch of soil feels dry.
-
Use filtered or distilled water if possible — sensitive to chemicals in tap water.
-
Reduce watering slightly in winter.
Humidity
-
Needs high humidity (60% or more) to thrive.
-
Low humidity can cause crispy brown leaf edges.
-
Use a humidifier, pebble tray, or frequent misting.
Temperature
-
Prefers 65–80°F (18–27°C).
-
Avoid cold drafts or temperatures below 60°F (15°C).
Soil
-
Use a well-draining, rich potting mix — peat-based with perlite or coco coir works well.
-
Ensure the pot has good drainage.
Fertilizer
-
Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer.
-
Hold off in fall and winter.
Pruning & Maintenance
-
Remove damaged or yellowing leaves to keep the plant tidy.
-
Wipe leaves occasionally to remove dust and allow for better photosynthesis.
Propagation
-
Propagate via division during repotting — gently separate rhizomes with roots attached.
Common Issues
-
Brown edges: low humidity or fluoride in water.
-
Yellowing leaves: overwatering or poor drainage.
-
Curling leaves: underwatering or too much direct sun.
-
Pests: spider mites and mealybugs — treat promptly with insecticidal soap.
