The Zygo cactus, also known as Christmas cactus or Thanksgiving cactus, is a popular houseplant known for its colorful flowers that bloom in winter. It thrives in bright, indirect light and prefers a humid environment, making it different from typical desert cacti.

Our offerings are actually the Thanksgiving cactus variety, which you'll know by the pointy ends of each leaves, true Christmas cactus varieties have rounded edges.

* The plant photos shown are our stock images used to represent the general appearance, size, and quality of the plant you’ll receive. Please remember that each plant is unique—natural variations in color, shape, and size are completely normal!

 Light

  • Bright, indirect light is best! Place it near a window with filtered sunlight.

  • Too much direct sun can cause the leaves to turn red or get scorched.

 Watering

  • Water when the top inch of soil feels dry—these plants like slightly moist soil, but not soggy.

  • Empty the saucer after watering; they don’t like sitting in water.

  • During blooming, keep the soil consistently damp (but still not wet).

 Temperature & Humidity

  • They prefer 60–70°F (15–21°C) during the day and a bit cooler at night.

  • Avoid cold drafts or sudden temperature changes.

  • They appreciate some humidity, so if your air is dry, try a pebble tray or occasional misting.

 Blooming Tips

  • To encourage blooms, give it 12–14 hours of darkness and cooler temps (around 55°F/13°C) for about 6 weeks in early fall.

  • Once buds form, move it to a bright spot and keep watering gently.

  • Don’t move it around too much while it’s budding—buds can drop if the plant is stressed!

 After Blooming

  • Once flowers fade, let the plant rest for about a month: reduce watering and keep it in a cooler spot.

  • After the rest period, resume normal care and maybe give it some balanced houseplant fertilizer every 2–4 weeks during spring and summer.
