Light
-
Bright, indirect light is best
-
Avoid harsh direct sun (can burn those pretty variegated leaves)
-
Can tolerate medium light but growth slows down
Water
-
Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry
-
Keep soil lightly moist, not soggy
-
Reduce watering in winter
Temperature & Humidity
-
Prefers 65–80°F (18–27°C)
-
Loves higher humidity (60%+), but can adapt to average home levels
-
Keep away from cold drafts or AC vents
Soil
-
Use a well-draining aroid mix (e.g., soil + perlite + orchid bark)
-
Needs lots of airflow around the roots
Fertilizer
-
Feed monthly in spring and summer with a balanced, diluted fertilizer
-
Pause feeding during fall/winter
Growth Habit
-
Slow-growing, but worth the wait
-
Provide a moss pole or support if you want bigger, more dramatic leaves
Pests
-
Watch for mealybugs, spider mites, and scale
-
Wipe leaves occasionally and inspect new growth
Repotting
-
Repot every 1–2 years or when roots circle the pot
-
Don’t size up too drastically—just 1–2 inches bigger
