Light
-
Prefers bright, indirect light.
-
Can tolerate medium light, but deep leaf color is best in brighter conditions.
-
Avoid direct sun, which can scorch the textured leaves.
Water
-
Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil are dry.
-
Rosso is semi-succulent, storing water in its leaves, so it’s safer to underwater than overwater.
-
Reduce watering in winter.
Humidity
-
Enjoys average household humidity.
-
Will tolerate slightly higher humidity, but avoid overly damp conditions.
Temperature
-
Ideal range: 65–80°F (18–27°C).
-
Avoid cold drafts and temperatures below 55°F (13°C).
Soil
-
Requires a light, fast-draining mix.
-
Use potting soil mixed with perlite and a bit of orchid bark or sand.
-
Avoid dense, water-retentive soil.
Fertilizer
-
Feed every 4–6 weeks in spring and summer with a diluted balanced fertilizer.
-
Do not fertilize in fall or winter.
Pruning & Maintenance
-
Remove any yellowing or damaged leaves.
-
Naturally compact—requires minimal shaping.
Propagation
-
Easily propagated via leaf cuttings or stem cuttings in soil.
-
Stem cuttings root faster; leaf cuttings take longer but work well.
Common Issues
-
Soft, mushy leaves: overwatering.
-
Wrinkled or limp leaves: underwatering.
-
Leggy growth: insufficient light.
-
Pests: occasionally mealybugs or fungus gnats.
Pet Safety
- Peperomias are non-toxic to pets, making them a great option for homes with cats and dogs.
