Philodendron Painted Lady 6”

Philodendron Painted Lady 6”

Light

This plant thrives in bright, indirect light. Too much direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, while too little light may cause the variegation to fade.

It can tolerate lower light conditions, but the vibrant colors may not be as pronounced.

Watering

Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil are dry. Typically, this means watering every 1–2 weeks, but it can vary depending on the environment.

Avoid overwatering, as this plant is prone to root rot. Ensure that the pot has drainage holes and never let the plant sit in standing water.

In winter, reduce watering as the plant’s growth slows.

Humidity

Philodendron Painted Lady prefers moderate to high humidity. You can increase humidity by misting the plant, placing it near a humidifier, or using a pebble tray with water.

Ideal humidity is above 50%, but it can adapt to normal indoor conditions if kept away from dry air or heat sources.

Temperature

Ideal temperature range is between 65–80°F. Avoid temperatures below 55°F or sudden cold drafts, as this can stress the plant.

Soil

Use a well-draining potting mix, such as a mix for aroids or general houseplants. You can also mix regular potting soil with perlite, orchid bark, or coco coir to improve drainage and aeration.

Fertilizing

Fertilize during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 4-6 weeks.

No need to fertilize in fall and winter when the plant’s growth slows down.

Pruning

Pruning is mainly for maintaining the plant’s shape and removing any dead or yellow leaves.

Trim leggy growth to encourage bushier growth and to keep the plant looking neat.

Repotting

Repot every 1-2 years, or when the plant outgrows its pot. Choose a container that’s about 1-2 inches larger in diameter, and make sure it has drainage holes.

Repotting provides fresh soil and room for root growth, which promotes overall plant health.

Support

Philodendron Painted Lady is a climbing plant, so it benefits from a moss pole or trellis for support. This allows it to grow upright and develop larger leaves.

The aerial roots will naturally attach to the support, helping the plant to grow stronger.

Pest Control

Although Philodendrons are relatively resistant to pests, they can occasionally attract spider mites, mealybugs, or aphids. Check the leaves regularly, and if necessary, treat with neem oil or insecticidal soap.

Signs of Stress

Yellowing leaves can indicate overwatering, while dry brown edges may result from underwatering or low humidity.

Drooping leaves might be a sign of improper watering (either too much or too little) or low light levels.

Fading variegation may be a result of inadequate light. If the vibrant colors fade, try moving the plant to a brighter spot.
