Hoya Krohniana 6”

Hoya Krohniana 6”

Light:

Bright, indirect light is best for Hoya krohniana. While it can tolerate some direct morning sunlight, too much direct sun, especially in the afternoon, can scorch its leaves.

It can adapt to lower light conditions but may not bloom as frequently or grow as vigorously.

Watering:

Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry. Let the plant dry out slightly between waterings, as Hoyas don’t like to sit in consistently wet soil.

Water less frequently in the winter, as the plant’s growth slows down during this time.

Avoid overwatering, which can lead to root rot.

Soil:

Use a well-draining potting mix. A mix designed for succulents or cacti works well, or you can combine regular potting soil with perlite or orchid bark to improve drainage.

Hoyas appreciate aerated soil that mimics their natural epiphytic growing conditions.

 Temperature:

Hoya krohniana thrives in warm temperatures between 60-85°F

Avoid exposing the plant to temperatures below 50°F for extended periods, as it is sensitive to cold drafts.

Humidity:

This plant prefers higher humidity levels (60% or higher), especially if you want to encourage blooming.

If the air is dry, particularly in winter, consider misting the plant, placing it near a humidifier, or using a pebble tray to increase humidity.

Fertilizing:

Feed the plant once a month during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer, or one specifically for flowering plants.

You can stop fertilizing during the fall and winter months when the plant isn’t actively growing.

Pruning and Training:

Hoya krohniana doesn’t need much pruning, but you can trim it back if it becomes too long or unruly. Trim just above a node to encourage branching and bushier growth.

Train the vines to climb or trail by placing them on a trellis, or let them hang naturally from a pot.

Repotting:

Repot every 2-3 years, or when the plant becomes root-bound, using fresh soil.

Hoyas prefer to be slightly root-bound, so don’t rush to repot unless necessary.

Propagation:

Easily propagated through stem cuttings. Cut just below a node and place the cutting in water or directly into moist soil. New roots should develop within a few weeks.

Blooming:

Hoya krohniana produces clusters of small, fragrant flowers under ideal conditions. To encourage blooming, make sure the plant gets enough light and isn’t overwatered.

Hoyas bloom best when slightly root-bound and mature, so patience is key.

Pests:

Common pests include mealybugs, spider mites, and aphids. Inspect the plant regularly and treat infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
