Size

* The plant photos shown are our stock images used to represent the general appearance, size, and quality of the plant you’ll receive. Please remember that each plant is unique—natural variations in color, shape, and size are completely normal!

 Light

  • Prefers bright, indirect light.

  • Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

  • Low light will slow growth and reduce flowering, but the plant can survive in moderate indoor light.

 Watering

  • Fill the central “cup” (rosette) with water and keep it topped up; flush occasionally to prevent stagnation.

  • Keep the soil lightly moist but well-draining. Avoid waterlogging.

  • Use filtered or distilled water if your tap water is highly chlorinated, as bromeliads are sensitive.

 Humidity

  • Guzmanias prefer high humidity (50–70%).

  • Mist leaves occasionally or place the pot on a humidity tray if air is dry.

  • Grouping plants together can also increase local humidity.

Temperature

  • Ideal range: 65–80°F (18–27°C).

  • Avoid temperatures below 55–60°F (13–15°C).

  • Protect from drafts and sudden temperature changes.

 Soil / Potting

  • Use a well-draining, airy mix, such as orchid bark combined with peat or perlite.

  • Repotting is generally only needed when pups grow large or the medium deteriorates.

Fertilizing

  • Feed during the active growing season (spring–summer) with a diluted, balanced fertilizer (half-strength).

  • Fertilize less frequently in fall and winter.

  • Fertilizer can be applied directly into the cup or lightly to the soil.

 Blooming & Lifecycle

  • Colorful bracts appear in the center; flowers bloom from these bracts.

  • After flowering, the mother plant gradually dies, but produces offsets (“pups”) at the base.

  • Separate pups when they are about 1/3–1/2 the size of the mother and repot for new plants.

 Pruning

  • Remove dead or dying leaves to maintain plant health and appearance.

  • Cut back spent flower stalks once the blooms fade.

 Pests

  • Watch for mealybugs, scale, and aphids.

  • Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil.

Tips for Success

  • Keep the cup filled with clean water and refresh it regularly.

  • Avoid over-fertilizing, which can damage the plant.

  • Provide bright indirect light to keep bract colors vivid.
