Light
- Bright, indirect light is best for Calathea Beauty Star. It can tolerate lower light conditions, but too much direct sunlight can scorch the leaves and cause them to fade.
- A spot near an east or north-facing window works well. If sunlight is too strong, use sheer curtains to diffuse it.

Watering
- Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry to the touch.
- Use filtered or distilled water if possible, as Calatheas are sensitive to fluoride and chlorine often found in tap water, which can cause leaf browning.
- Ensure that the pot has proper drainage to avoid waterlogging, which can lead to root rot.
- Water less in winter, but never let the soil completely dry out.

Humidity
- Calathea Beauty Star loves high humidity, ideally around 60-80%. Low humidity can cause the edges of the leaves to brown or curl.
- Use a humidifier, place the plant on a pebble tray with water, or mist the plant regularly to maintain humidity.
- Bathrooms and kitchens are often good places for Calatheas due to their naturally higher humidity levels.

Temperature
- Keep your plant in a warm environment with temperatures between 65-80°F.
- Avoid placing it near drafts, heaters, or air conditioners, as sudden temperature changes and cold drafts can stress the plant.

Soil
- Use a well-draining potting mix. A mix of potting soil with added perlite or orchid bark works well to ensure proper aeration and drainage.
- The soil should retain moisture but not stay waterlogged.

Fertilizer
- Feed the plant every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength.
- Avoid fertilizing in fall and winter when the plant's growth slows down.

Pruning and Cleaning
- Trim away any yellow or damaged leaves to encourage new growth and maintain the plant’s appearance.
- Clean the leaves regularly with a damp cloth to remove dust and enhance photosynthesis. Avoid using leaf shine products, as they can damage the sensitive foliage.

Repotting
- Repot every 1-2 years in spring, especially if the plant becomes root-bound. Use fresh soil and a pot that allows for proper drainage.
- When repotting, choose a container only slightly larger than the current one to avoid water retention in excess soil.

Pests
- Spider mites, mealybugs, and aphids can occasionally affect Calatheas. Regularly inspect the plant, especially the undersides of the leaves, and treat any infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
- Maintain good air circulation and avoid overcrowding plants to prevent infestations.

Humidity in Winter
- In winter, indoor heating can dry out the air, so it’s important to monitor and maintain humidity levels. Use a humidifier if necessary, and avoid placing the plant near heat sources.

Toxicity
- Calathea Beauty Star is non-toxic to pets and humans, making it a safe choice for households with animals or children.

Extra Tips:
- Avoid overwatering: Allow the topsoil to dry slightly between waterings, and always ensure good drainage to prevent root rot.
- Turn the plant periodically: Calatheas are light-sensitive and will grow toward the light, so rotating the plant every few weeks will ensure even growth.
