Light
-
Bright, indirect light is a must
-
Too much direct sun = scorched leaves
-
Too little light = smaller leaves and slow growth
Water
-
Keep soil evenly moist, not soggy
-
Water when the top 1–2 inches are dry
-
Always empty the saucer—Polly hates wet feet
Humidity
-
Loves high humidity (60–80%)
-
A humidifier works best
-
Low humidity = crispy edges and drooping leaves
Temperature
-
Ideal range: 65–85°F (18–29°C)
-
Avoid drafts, AC, and cold windows
-
Temps below 60°F can cause leaf drop
Soil
-
Needs a chunky, well-draining mix
-
Potting soil + perlite + orchid bark or coco chips
-
-
Good drainage holes are non-negotiable
Fertilizer
-
Feed every 2–4 weeks in spring & summer
-
Use a balanced liquid fertilizer, diluted
-
Pause feeding in fall and winter
Totally Normal Alocasia Behavior
-
Dropping an old leaf when pushing a new one → normal
-
Yellowing leaves → overwatering or cold stress
-
Curling or drooping → underwatering or low humidity
-
Dormancy in winter → also normal! Reduce watering
Extra Tips from Planty
-
Wipe leaves to keep them dust-free and photosynthesizing
-
Rotate for even growth
-
Don’t panic if it sulks after repotting—it needs time to settle
