Aglaonema King of Siam 6”

Aglaonema King of Siam 6”

Light Requirements
- Low to Bright Indirect Light: The 'King of Siam' tolerates low light but thrives best in bright, indirect light. Too much direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, while too little light can reduce the plant’s growth and vibrancy.
- Adaptability: It can handle fluorescent lighting, making it a good choice for offices and indoor spaces without a lot of natural light.

Watering
- Moderate Watering: Allow the top 1-2 inches of soil to dry out between waterings. Water thoroughly when the soil feels dry, but avoid letting the plant sit in water to prevent root rot.
- Humidity: Aglaonema 'King of Siam' appreciates moderate humidity. If the air in your home is dry, consider misting the plant or placing it near a humidifier.
- Water Quality: Use room-temperature, filtered, or distilled water if possible, as tap water with high chlorine or fluoride levels may cause leaf browning.

Soil
- Well-Draining Soil: Use a light, well-draining potting mix. A standard houseplant mix with added perlite or sand will work well to promote aeration and prevent waterlogging.
- Avoid Heavy, Compact Soil: Make sure the soil drains easily to avoid water accumulation, which can lead to root rot.

Temperature
- Warm Temperatures: Aglaonema 'King of Siam' prefers temperatures between 65-80°F. It cannot tolerate cold drafts or temperatures below 60°F, so keep it away from open windows and air conditioners.
- Avoid Sudden Temperature Drops: Protect the plant from any extreme temperature fluctuations.

Fertilization
- Balanced Fertilizer: Feed the plant with a balanced liquid fertilizer (such as 10-10-10 or 20-20-20) every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce feeding during fall and winter when the plant’s growth slows.
- Diluted Fertilizer: Always dilute the fertilizer to half strength to avoid nutrient burn.

Pruning
- Minimal Pruning: Aglaonema 'King of Siam' requires little pruning. Simply remove any yellowing or damaged leaves to keep the plant healthy.
- Shaping: Prune any leggy growth to encourage fuller, bushier growth if the plant starts to stretch toward light.

Repotting
- Repot Every 1-2 Years: Repot your Aglaonema every 1-2 years or when it outgrows its pot. Spring is the best time to repot, using fresh, well-draining soil.
- Choose a Pot with Drainage: Make sure the new pot has drainage holes to allow excess water to escape.

Propagation
- Division: The easiest way to propagate Aglaonema 'King of Siam' is through division. When repotting, gently separate the root ball into smaller sections and plant each section in its own pot.

- Stem Cuttings: You can also take stem cuttings and root them in water or directly in soil. Ensure the cuttings are kept in a warm, humid environment until roots develop.

Common Issues
- Yellowing Leaves: This can be a sign of overwatering or poor drainage. Adjust your watering schedule and check that the potting mix drains well.
- Brown Leaf Tips: This can result from low humidity or chemicals in the water. Use distilled or filtered water and mist the plant occasionally.
- Pests: Aglaonema is generally pest-resistant, but it can sometimes attract spider mites, aphids, or mealybugs. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil, and regularly wipe down the leaves.
