ZZ Plant 6”

ZZ Plant 6”

Light:

ZZ plants thrive in bright, indirect light but can tolerate low light conditions.

Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves. They are particularly well-suited for areas with filtered light.

Watering:

Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. ZZ plants are drought-tolerant and prefer to be underwatered rather than overwatered.

Water less frequently in the winter when the plant’s growth slows. Typically, watering every 2-3 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) is sufficient.

Ensure the pot has good drainage to prevent root rot.

Soil:

Use a well-draining potting mix, such as a standard houseplant soil with added perlite or sand to improve drainage.

Avoid heavy soils that retain moisture, as this can lead to root rot.

 Humidity:

ZZ plants can tolerate a wide range of humidity levels, including dry indoor air.

They do not require high humidity but will benefit from occasional misting in very dry conditions.

Temperature:

ZZ plants prefer temperatures between 60°F and 75°F.

They can tolerate temperatures as low as 45°F but should be protected from frost and extreme cold.

Fertilizer:

Fertilize sparingly during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks.

No need to fertilize in fall and winter when the plant is dormant.

Repotting:

Repot your ZZ plant every 2-3 years or when it becomes root-bound.

Choose a pot that is 1-2 inches larger in diameter than the current one and use fresh potting mix.

 Pests:

ZZ plants are generally pest-resistant, but watch out for mealybugs, spider mites, and scale.

If you notice pests, wipe the leaves with a damp cloth or treat them with insecticidal soap or neem oil.

Toxicity:

Toxic to pets and humans if ingested, so keep it out of reach of children and animals. The plant contains calcium oxalate crystals, which can cause irritation.

Extra Tips:

Dust the leaves regularly with a damp cloth to keep them clean and help the plant photosynthesize effectively.

ZZ plants are very forgiving and can bounce back from neglect, making them perfect for beginners or busy individuals.

Be patient, as ZZ plants grow slowly, especially in lower light conditions.
