Jade Plant 6”

Jade Plant 6”

1. Light:

Jade plants need bright, direct sunlight for at least 4-6 hours a day. They thrive in sunny spots, such as south- or west-facing windows.

If grown indoors, make sure the plant gets enough sunlight to maintain its compact, sturdy growth. If the plant doesn’t get enough light, it may become leggy and weak.

2. Watering:

Jade plants prefer to dry out between waterings. Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry to the touch.

Be sure to water thoroughly until water drains out the bottom of the pot. Avoid letting the plant sit in water, as jade plants are prone to root rot if overwatered.

During the winter, reduce watering, as the plant’s growth slows down in cooler months.

3. Humidity:

Jade plants do well in average household humidity and do not require high humidity levels.

They are adapted to dry environments, so there’s no need to mist the plant or worry about increasing humidity levels.

4. Temperature:

Jade plants prefer temperatures between 65°F and 75°F (18°C to 24°C) during the day and cooler nighttime temperatures.

They can tolerate cooler temperatures down to 50°F (10°C) but should be protected from frost. Keep them away from cold drafts and heating vents.

5. Soil:

Use a well-draining succulent or cactus mix. If you use regular potting soil, be sure to mix in perlite or sand to improve drainage.

Ensure the pot has drainage holes to prevent water from sitting at the bottom.

6. Fertilizer:

Fertilize your Jade Plant during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength every 4-6 weeks.

Do not fertilize in the fall and winter when the plant is dormant.

7. Pruning:

Prune your Jade Plant to control its shape and encourage bushier growth. Trim leggy or overgrown branches, making clean cuts just above leaf nodes.

Remove any dead or damaged leaves to maintain a healthy appearance.

8. Repotting:

Jade plants are slow growers and do not need frequent repotting. Repot every 2-3 years or when the plant becomes root-bound.

Choose a pot that’s slightly larger than the current one, with good drainage. Repot in the spring for best results.

9. Pest Control:

Jade plants can occasionally attract pests like mealybugs, spider mites, and scale. Inspect the plant regularly, especially under the leaves.

If you spot pests, wipe them off with a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol, or use insecticidal soap or neem oil to treat infestations.

10. Propagation:

Jade plants are easy to propagate through leaf or stem cuttings. Simply cut a healthy leaf or stem, let it dry for a few days to callous, then place it in well-draining soil.

Water sparingly until new roots form, which usually takes a few weeks.

11. General Care:

Rotate the plant every few weeks to ensure even growth since it will naturally lean toward the light source.

Dust the leaves regularly with a soft cloth to help the plant photosynthesize effectively.
