Light
-
Prefers bright, indirect light.
-
Can tolerate medium light, but growth will slow and leaves may be smaller.
-
Avoid direct sunlight — it can scorch the leaves.
Water
-
Allow the top 2 inches of soil to dry out between waterings.
-
Overwatering can cause root rot; underwatering may cause leaf curling or browning.
-
Reduce watering slightly in winter, when growth slows.
Humidity
-
Loves high humidity (50%+ ideal).
-
Low humidity can cause brown leaf edges.
-
Can benefit from misting, a humidifier, or a pebble tray.
Temperature
-
Thrives in 65–85°F (18–29°C).
-
Avoid temperatures below 55°F (13°C) and cold drafts.
Soil
-
Use a well-draining, aerated soil mix.
-
Ideal mix: potting soil + perlite + orchid bark.
-
Ensure the pot has drainage holes to prevent waterlogging.
Fertilizer
-
Feed once a month during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced liquid fertilizer.
-
Reduce or stop fertilizing in fall/winter.
Pruning & Support
-
Prune leggy growth to encourage fuller plants.
-
Can be trained to climb a moss pole or trail from a hanging basket.
Propagation
-
Easy to propagate via stem cuttings in water or soil.
-
Ensure cuttings have at least one node for roots to develop.
Common Issues
-
Yellow leaves: overwatering.
-
Brown leaf tips: low humidity or inconsistent watering.
-
Pests: spider mites, mealybugs, scale — treat promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
