Light:
• Provide bright, indirect light for optimal growth.
• It can tolerate some direct sunlight, especially in the morning, but avoid harsh afternoon sun to prevent leaf burn.
• In lower light conditions, growth may become leggy, with the pearls spacing out.
Watering:
• Water sparingly. Let the soil dry out between waterings to avoid root rot.
• During the growing season (spring and summer), water more regularly, about once every two weeks.
• Reduce watering in winter when the plant is dormant, as it requires less moisture during this time.
Soil:
• Use a well-draining soil mix such as cactus or succulent soil.
• Ensure your pot has drainage holes to prevent water from pooling at the bottom, which can lead to root rot.
Temperature & Humidity:
• String of Pearls prefers temperatures between 70-80°F in summer.
• In winter, it can tolerate slightly cooler temperatures, but it should stay above 50°F
• It prefers a dry environment and does well in average indoor humidity.
Fertilizer:
• During the growing season, feed once a month with a diluted liquid fertilizer formulated for succulents.
• There’s no need to fertilize during the winter when growth slows down.
Pruning & Propagation:
• Prune any leggy or dead vines to maintain the plant’s shape and encourage fuller growth.
• Propagation is easy: take a stem cutting and place it on top of soil or in water until roots develop, then replant.
Pests:
• Common pests include aphids, mealybugs, and spider mites. Treat infestations with neem oil or insecticidal soap.
Extra Tips:
• Positioning: String of Pearls looks best in hanging planters, where its vines can cascade naturally.
• Repotting: This plant likes to be a bit root-bound, so don’t rush to repot unless absolutely necessary.
