Snake Plant - Whale Fin Variegated 6"

Snake Plant - Whale Fin Variegated 6"

The Variegated Whale Fin Sansevieria (a.k.a. Sansevieria masoniana ‘Variegata’) is such a stunner!  Those big, paddle-shaped leaves with creamy-yellow streaks? Total plant goals.

🌞 Light

  • Bright, indirect light helps those gorgeous variegated stripes really pop.

  • It can handle low light (it’s a Sansevieria after all), but too little and the variegation might fade.

  • A bit of gentle direct sun is okay, but avoid the harsh midday rays.

💧 Water

  • This is a drought-tolerant queen. Water sparingly!

  • Let the soil dry out completely between waterings.

  • Think once every 2–4 weeks, depending on the season and light.

  • Water even less in winter.

Overwatering = mushy leaves = sad whale 🥲

🌵 Soil

  • Needs a well-draining soil mix. Cactus or succulent mix is perfect.

  • You can also mix regular potting soil with perlite or sand.

🪴 Pot

  • Absolutely must have drainage holes.

  • Whale Fins are slow growers and don’t mind being a little root-bound.

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity

  • Warm and dry is the vibe: 65–85°F.

  • It’s chill with regular indoor humidity.

  • Avoid cold drafts and keep it above 50°F.

🌿 Growth

  • Very slow grower, especially the variegated kind.

  • Each leaf grows individually, and it may take a while for new ones to appear.

  • Be patient—these plants are in no rush 😄

✂️ Pruning & Propagation

  • No pruning needed unless you want to remove damaged leaves.

  • You can propagate it by leaf cuttings, but with variegation, the baby plants might not keep the same pattern.
