Purple Oxallis 4"

Purple Oxallis 4"

The Purple Oxalis, also called False Shamrock, is a stunning, easy-to-care-for plant with deep purple, butterfly-like leaves that open and close with the light! Here’s how to keep it happy:

🌞 Light:

Bright indirect light to partial sun is best. It can handle some direct morning sun but avoid harsh afternoon rays. If grown indoors, a sunny windowsill (east- or west-facing) is perfect!

💧 Water:

Water when the top inch of soil is dry. It prefers slightly moist soil but is sensitive to overwatering. Too much water can cause root rot—always use a pot with drainage holes.

🌱 Soil:

A well-draining potting mix works well. You can mix:
✔️ Regular potting soil
✔️ Perlite (for aeration)
✔️ A bit of sand or orchid bark for extra drainage

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity:

Thrives in 60-75°F (15-24°C) but can tolerate slightly cooler temps. Avoid frost! ❄️
It’s fine in normal home humidity but will appreciate an occasional misting in dry environments.

🌿 Fertilizer:

Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer (like 10-10-10) every 4-6 weeks during spring and summer. Skip fertilizing in fall and winter when it's dormant.

⏳ Dormancy:

Your Oxalis may go dormant! If the leaves start dying back (often in late summer or winter), don’t panic! Reduce watering and let it rest for a few weeks. Once new growth appears, resume normal care.

📏 Growth & Propagation:

It grows from small bulbs and spreads easily! To propagate:
1️⃣ Gently remove bulbs from the soil.
2️⃣ Separate them and plant in fresh soil.
3️⃣ Water lightly and watch for new growth in a few weeks!

🐛 Pests & Problems:

Common pests: Watch out for spider mites, aphids, and fungus gnats. Treat with neem oil or insecticidal soap.
Leggy growth? Needs more light.
Yellowing leaves? Overwatering.
Leaves folding up during the day? Normal! Oxalis leaves open in the morning and close at night
