Poinsettia Red 4”

Poinsettia Red 4”

Light:

Place your poinsettia in bright, indirect light. They prefer at least 6 hours of light daily but avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

Temperature:

Maintain a temperature between 65–75°F during the day. Avoid exposing the plant to drafts, cold air, or temperatures below 50°F

Watering:

Water when the soil feels dry to the touch, but do not let the plant sit in standing water. Ensure the pot has good drainage to prevent root rot.

Remove any decorative foil wrapping or poke holes in it to allow water to drain.

Humidity:

Poinsettias prefer moderate humidity. If your home is very dry, consider misting the plant occasionally or placing it near a tray of water with pebbles.

Fertilizer:

Fertilize monthly with a balanced, all-purpose houseplant fertilizer only after the blooming season ends (typically in spring and summer).

After the Holidays:

To keep your poinsettia thriving, prune it back to about 4–6 inches in late winter or early spring once the leaves begin to drop.

Repot if necessary, and place it outdoors in a partly shaded spot during the summer.

Re-blooming:

In the fall, poinsettias need 14–16 hours of complete darkness each night for 8–10 weeks to encourage blooming. Cover it with a box or place it in a dark closet during this period, then return it to bright light during the day.
