Plumeria 6"

Plumeria 6"

Light:

Full sun is ideal for plumeria. They thrive in bright, direct sunlight for at least 6-8 hours a day.

If growing indoors, place them near a south or west-facing window.

Watering:

Water plumeria when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry. They prefer deep, infrequent watering rather than frequent shallow watering.

In the growing season (spring and summer), they may need more water, while in the dormant season (fall and winter), reduce watering.

Soil:

Use a well-draining potting mix. A cactus or succulent mix or a blend of regular potting soil with sand or perlite works well to ensure proper drainage.

Good drainage is essential to prevent root rot.

Temperature:

Plumeria thrives in warm temperatures between 65-80°F. They prefer hot, humid conditions.

Protect them from frost and temperatures below 50°F

Humidity:

They prefer higher humidity levels, but they can adapt to average household humidity. If your home is particularly dry, consider misting the leaves or using a humidifier.

Fertilizing:

Fertilize plumeria every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced fertilizer or one high in phosphorus (like a 10-30-10 formula) to encourage blooming.

Reduce or stop fertilizing in the fall and winter when the plant is dormant.

Pruning and Maintenance:

Prune after the blooming season to maintain shape and remove any dead or unhealthy branches.

Regularly clean the leaves to remove dust and improve photosynthesis.

Repotting:

Repot every 2-3 years or when the plant becomes root-bound. Use fresh potting mix when repotting.

The best time to repot is in the spring, just before the growing season.

 Propagation:

Plumeria can be propagated through stem cuttings. Cut a healthy branch, let it callous over for a few days, then plant it in soil. Water lightly until roots develop.

They can also be propagated from seeds, though this method is less common.

Pests:

Watch for pests like aphids, mealybugs, and spider mites. Treat infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil.

Good air circulation around the plant can help prevent pest issues.

Toxicity:

Plumeria is generally considered non-toxic to pets and humans, but it’s always good to monitor any plant consumption by pets.
