Plumeria 6"
Plumeria 6"
Light:
• Full sun is ideal for plumeria. They thrive in bright, direct sunlight for at least 6-8 hours a day.
• If growing indoors, place them near a south or west-facing window.
Watering:
• Water plumeria when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry. They prefer deep, infrequent watering rather than frequent shallow watering.
• In the growing season (spring and summer), they may need more water, while in the dormant season (fall and winter), reduce watering.
Soil:
• Use a well-draining potting mix. A cactus or succulent mix or a blend of regular potting soil with sand or perlite works well to ensure proper drainage.
• Good drainage is essential to prevent root rot.
Temperature:
• Plumeria thrives in warm temperatures between 65-80°F. They prefer hot, humid conditions.
• Protect them from frost and temperatures below 50°F
Humidity:
• They prefer higher humidity levels, but they can adapt to average household humidity. If your home is particularly dry, consider misting the leaves or using a humidifier.
Fertilizing:
• Fertilize plumeria every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced fertilizer or one high in phosphorus (like a 10-30-10 formula) to encourage blooming.
• Reduce or stop fertilizing in the fall and winter when the plant is dormant.
Pruning and Maintenance:
• Prune after the blooming season to maintain shape and remove any dead or unhealthy branches.
• Regularly clean the leaves to remove dust and improve photosynthesis.
Repotting:
• Repot every 2-3 years or when the plant becomes root-bound. Use fresh potting mix when repotting.
• The best time to repot is in the spring, just before the growing season.
Propagation:
• Plumeria can be propagated through stem cuttings. Cut a healthy branch, let it callous over for a few days, then plant it in soil. Water lightly until roots develop.
• They can also be propagated from seeds, though this method is less common.
Pests:
• Watch for pests like aphids, mealybugs, and spider mites. Treat infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
• Good air circulation around the plant can help prevent pest issues.
Toxicity:
• Plumeria is generally considered non-toxic to pets and humans, but it’s always good to monitor any plant consumption by pets.
