Philodendron Summer Glory 8”

Philodendron Summer Glory 8”

Light:

Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain its vibrant colors. It can tolerate lower light levels, but the plant may grow slower and the colors may become less intense.

Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves.

Watering:

Keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry to the touch.

Reduce watering in the winter when the plant’s growth slows, but never let the soil dry out completely.

Ensure the pot has drainage holes to prevent waterlogging and root rot.

 Soil:

Use a well-draining potting mix, such as a mix designed for aroids or Philodendrons. You can make your own by combining potting soil with orchid bark, perlite, and peat moss.

Good drainage is essential to keep the roots healthy.

Temperature:

Thrives in warm indoor temperatures between 65-80°F

Keep the plant away from cold drafts, as it is sensitive to temperatures below 55°F

Humidity:

High humidity is beneficial, as this plant prefers moisture in the air. Aim for 50% or higher humidity.

If you live in a dry climate, consider misting the plant, using a humidifier, or placing it on a tray of pebbles filled with water.

Fertilizing:

Feed monthly during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer or a fertilizer specifically designed for Philodendrons.

No need to fertilize in the fall and winter when the plant’s growth slows.

Pruning and Maintenance:

Prune to remove any yellowing or damaged leaves, and to maintain a tidy appearance.

You can also prune to control the size of the plant, as it can grow fairly large in optimal conditions.

Repotting:

Repot every 1-2 years or when the plant outgrows its pot. Choose a slightly larger pot with fresh, well-draining soil.

Philodendrons like to be somewhat root-bound, so don’t rush to repot unless necessary.

Propagation:

Easily propagated through stem cuttings. Cut a section of stem with at least one node and place it in water or moist soil. Roots should form within a few weeks.

Alternatively, air layering is another method for propagating larger plants.

Pests:

Philodendron ‘Summer Glory’ is generally pest-resistant, but it can occasionally be affected by spider mites, mealybugs, or aphids.

Regularly inspect the plant and treat infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil.

Toxicity:

Like other Philodendrons, Summer Glory is toxic if ingested by pets or humans. Keep it out of reach of children, cats, and dogs.
