Philodendron Prince of Orange 6”

Philodendron Prince of Orange 6”

Light:

Bright, indirect light is ideal. While the Philodendron Prince of Orange can tolerate lower light conditions, the vibrant colors of its new leaves will be more pronounced in brighter light.

Avoid direct sunlight, which can burn the leaves and cause the color to fade.

Watering:

Water your plant when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry. Philodendron Prince of Orange likes to stay evenly moist but not waterlogged.

Water thoroughly and allow the excess to drain out. Ensure the pot has drainage holes to prevent root rot from overwatering.

Humidity:

This plant thrives in moderate to high humidity (50% or more). It can tolerate average indoor humidity, but increased humidity will encourage healthier growth and more vibrant foliage.

Use a humidifier, mist the plant occasionally, or place it on a humidity tray if your home has dry air, especially during the winter months.

Temperature:

The ideal temperature range for Philodendron Prince of Orange is between 65°F and 80°F.

Keep the plant away from cold drafts, heaters, or air conditioners, and avoid temperatures below 55°F, which can damage the plant.

Soil:

Use a well-draining potting mix. Aroid or tropical plant mixes that include perlite, peat moss, or orchid bark are perfect, as they allow for good drainage and aeration.

Ensure the pot has drainage holes to avoid water accumulation, which can lead to root rot.

Fertilizer:

Feed your Philodendron Prince of Orange with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer).

Reduce fertilizing in the fall and winter when the plant’s growth naturally slows down.

Pruning:

Regularly prune off any yellow or dead leaves to maintain the plant’s appearance and encourage new growth.

You can also trim back leggy growth to encourage a bushier form.

Repotting:

Repot your Philodendron Prince of Orange every 1-2 years, or when it becomes root-bound. Choose a pot that is slightly larger than the current one to give the roots room to grow.

The best time to repot is in the spring, when the plant is actively growing.

Pest Control:

While the Philodendron Prince of Orange is relatively pest-resistant, it can occasionally attract pests such as spider mites, mealybugs, and aphids.

Check the leaves regularly for signs of pests, and treat infestations with neem oil or insecticidal soap if necessary.

Common Issues:

Yellowing leaves: This is usually a sign of overwatering. Ensure the soil is drying out between waterings and check that your pot has good drainage.

Browning leaf tips: This can indicate low humidity or inconsistent watering. Increase humidity or adjust your watering schedule.

Slow growth: If your plant isn’t growing well, it may not be receiving enough light. Move it to a brighter spot with indirect light.

Propagation:

Philodendron Prince of Orange can be propagated through stem cuttings or by division during repotting.

Take a cutting with at least one node, or gently separate the root ball into sections, ensuring each section has some roots.

General Tips:

Rotate the plant every couple of weeks to ensure even growth and prevent it from leaning toward the light source.

Wipe the leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust and keep them shiny, allowing the plant to photosynthesize efficiently.
