Philodendron Prince of Orange 6”
Philodendron Prince of Orange 6”
Light:
• Bright, indirect light is ideal. While the Philodendron Prince of Orange can tolerate lower light conditions, the vibrant colors of its new leaves will be more pronounced in brighter light.
• Avoid direct sunlight, which can burn the leaves and cause the color to fade.
Watering:
• Water your plant when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry. Philodendron Prince of Orange likes to stay evenly moist but not waterlogged.
• Water thoroughly and allow the excess to drain out. Ensure the pot has drainage holes to prevent root rot from overwatering.
Humidity:
• This plant thrives in moderate to high humidity (50% or more). It can tolerate average indoor humidity, but increased humidity will encourage healthier growth and more vibrant foliage.
• Use a humidifier, mist the plant occasionally, or place it on a humidity tray if your home has dry air, especially during the winter months.
Temperature:
• The ideal temperature range for Philodendron Prince of Orange is between 65°F and 80°F.
• Keep the plant away from cold drafts, heaters, or air conditioners, and avoid temperatures below 55°F, which can damage the plant.
Soil:
• Use a well-draining potting mix. Aroid or tropical plant mixes that include perlite, peat moss, or orchid bark are perfect, as they allow for good drainage and aeration.
• Ensure the pot has drainage holes to avoid water accumulation, which can lead to root rot.
Fertilizer:
• Feed your Philodendron Prince of Orange with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer).
• Reduce fertilizing in the fall and winter when the plant’s growth naturally slows down.
Pruning:
• Regularly prune off any yellow or dead leaves to maintain the plant’s appearance and encourage new growth.
• You can also trim back leggy growth to encourage a bushier form.
Repotting:
• Repot your Philodendron Prince of Orange every 1-2 years, or when it becomes root-bound. Choose a pot that is slightly larger than the current one to give the roots room to grow.
• The best time to repot is in the spring, when the plant is actively growing.
Pest Control:
• While the Philodendron Prince of Orange is relatively pest-resistant, it can occasionally attract pests such as spider mites, mealybugs, and aphids.
• Check the leaves regularly for signs of pests, and treat infestations with neem oil or insecticidal soap if necessary.
Common Issues:
• Yellowing leaves: This is usually a sign of overwatering. Ensure the soil is drying out between waterings and check that your pot has good drainage.
• Browning leaf tips: This can indicate low humidity or inconsistent watering. Increase humidity or adjust your watering schedule.
• Slow growth: If your plant isn’t growing well, it may not be receiving enough light. Move it to a brighter spot with indirect light.
Propagation:
• Philodendron Prince of Orange can be propagated through stem cuttings or by division during repotting.
• Take a cutting with at least one node, or gently separate the root ball into sections, ensuring each section has some roots.
General Tips:
• Rotate the plant every couple of weeks to ensure even growth and prevent it from leaning toward the light source.
• Wipe the leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust and keep them shiny, allowing the plant to photosynthesize efficiently.
