Light:
• Bright, indirect light is ideal for Philodendron Pink Princess. Too much direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, while too little light can reduce variegation and growth.
• A spot near a window with filtered light is perfect, or you can use a grow light if natural light is insufficient.
Watering:
• Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feel dry. Philodendrons prefer to be on the drier side, so avoid overwatering.
• During the growing season (spring and summer), you may need to water more frequently, while in the fall and winter, reduce watering.
Soil:
• Use a well-draining potting mix. A mix designed for aroids, or a combination of potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark, works well for this plant.
• Ensure the pot has drainage holes to prevent waterlogging and root rot.
Temperature:
• Philodendron Pink Princess thrives in warm temperatures between 65-80°F
• Protect it from cold drafts and temperatures below 50°F
Humidity:
• This plant prefers higher humidity levels (50-70% or more). If your home is dry, consider using a humidifier or placing a pebble tray with water nearby.
• Misting the leaves can also help increase humidity.
Fertilizing:
• Fertilize with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer).
• Reduce or stop fertilizing in the fall and winter when growth slows down.
Pruning and Maintenance:
• Regularly check for yellowing or damaged leaves and remove them to maintain the plant’s health and appearance.
• Pruning can also help encourage bushier growth.
Repotting:
• Repot every 1-2 years or when the plant becomes root-bound. Use fresh potting mix when repotting.
• The best time to repot is in the spring when the plant is actively growing.
Propagation:
• Philodendron Pink Princess can be propagated through stem cuttings. Ensure your cutting has at least one node and a leaf for successful rooting.
• Place the cutting in water or directly in moist soil until roots develop.
Pests:
• Keep an eye out for common pests such as spider mites, mealybugs, and aphids. Treat infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
• Ensure good air circulation around the plant to help prevent pest issues.
Toxicity:
• Philodendron Pink Princess is toxic to pets and humans if ingested, containing calcium oxalate crystals that can cause irritation. Keep it out of reach of children and pets.
