Philodendron Brandianum 6”

Philodendron Brandianum 6”

Lighting

Prefers bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch its leaves, while low light can cause leggy growth and reduced variegation.

East or north-facing windows are ideal, or place it a few feet away from a bright window in south or west exposure.

Temperature

Thrives in temperatures between 65–80°F

Avoid cold drafts or temperatures below 55°F, as it is sensitive to cold.

Watering

Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Philodendron brandtianum prefers evenly moist but not soggy soil.

Reduce watering slightly during the winter, when its growth slows, but do not let it dry out completely.

 Humidity

This plant loves high humidity. Aim for 50–60% humidity or higher if possible.

Use a humidifier, place the plant on a humidity tray, or mist it occasionally if your home is dry, especially in winter.

Soil

Use a well-draining, airy potting mix. A mix of peat, perlite, and orchid bark works well, as it provides moisture retention and good airflow for the roots.

Fertilizing

Feed monthly during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer.

Cut back on fertilizing during fall and winter when growth naturally slows down.

Support

Philodendron brandtianum can be grown as a trailing plant or with support, like a moss pole, which it will climb and use to grow larger leaves.

Providing support can encourage bigger, more vibrant foliage.

Repotting

Repot every 1–2 years or when roots start crowding the pot. Spring is the best time to repot, giving the plant room to grow during the warmer months.

Propagation

Philodendron brandtianum is easy to propagate. Take stem cuttings with at least one node, place them in water or soil, and keep them warm and humid until roots develop.

Common Problems

Yellowing Leaves: This can indicate overwatering or poor drainage.

Brown Leaf Tips: Often caused by low humidity or inconsistent watering.

Pests: Look out for pests like spider mites, mealybugs, and aphids. Regularly inspecting leaves can help catch issues early.
