🌞 Light
-
Loves bright light! The more the better — aim for at least 4–6 hours of direct sunlight a day.
-
Indoors, a south- or west-facing window is perfect.
-
Not enough light? It might get leggy and lose that pretty compact shape.
💧 Water
-
Think "soak and dry." Let the soil dry out completely between waterings.
-
In general: water every 2–3 weeks, a bit less in winter.
-
Avoid getting water on the leaves — they don’t like wet feet or soggy crowns.
Tip: Wrinkly leaves = thirsty. Mushy or yellow leaves = too much water.
🌱 Soil
-
Needs well-draining soil, like a cactus/succulent mix.
-
You can also DIY it by mixing regular potting soil with coarse sand or perlite (about 2:1 ratio).
🪴 Potting
-
Use a pot with drainage holes.
-
Repot every 2–3 years or when it gets top-heavy or root-bound.
-
Jade plants actually like being a little snug in their pots!
🌡️ Temperature & Humidity
-
Happy in room temps (60–75°F / 16–24°C).
-
Not frost-tolerant — if you’re keeping it outdoors, bring it inside when temps drop below 50°F (10°C).
-
Doesn’t need high humidity. Dry indoor air is totally fine.
✂️ Pruning & Shaping
-
You can pinch back or trim leggy branches to encourage bushier growth.
-
Jade plants also respond well to shaping — just snip above a node (leaf pair).
🌼 Fertilizer
-
Feed with a balanced succulent fertilizer once a month during spring and summer.
-
Skip fertilizing in fall and winter — that’s rest time for jades!
🐛 Common Pests
-
Keep an eye out for mealybugs, scale, or spider mites.
-
If you spot them, use a Q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol or spray with neem oil or insecticidal soap.
