Green Flame Fern 6"

Green Flame Fern 6"

Light:

Green Flame Ferns prefer bright, indirect light. They can tolerate lower light conditions but will grow more slowly and may not appear as lush.

Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the delicate fronds. East- or north-facing windows work well.

Watering:

Keep the soil consistently moist, but avoid waterlogging. Ferns are sensitive to drying out, so check the top inch of soil regularly and water when it feels slightly dry.

Use room-temperature water, as cold water can shock the roots.

Increase watering during the growing season (spring and summer) and reduce slightly in the winter, but never allow the soil to dry out completely.

Humidity:

Green Flame Ferns love high humidity. They thrive in humidity levels of 50% or higher.

Mist the plant regularly, or place it on a humidity tray. Using a humidifier in dry conditions or during winter months can also help keep your fern happy.

Temperature:

Ideal temperature range is between 60°F and 75°F (16°C to 24°C).

Avoid cold drafts, as this fern is sensitive to chilly conditions. Keep it away from air conditioners or windows that get cold in winter.

Soil:

Use a well-draining potting mix rich in organic matter. A mix designed for ferns or other houseplants with added peat or coco coir works well.

Make sure the pot has drainage holes to prevent water from accumulating at the bottom.

Fertilizer:

Fertilize during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength every 4-6 weeks.

Do not over-fertilize, as ferns are sensitive to excess nutrients. No fertilizer is needed during the fall and winter months when growth slows.

Pruning:

Prune dead, yellow, or damaged fronds regularly to maintain the fern’s appearance.

Trimming away old fronds encourages new growth and helps keep the plant looking fresh.

Repotting:

Repot every 2-3 years or when the fern becomes root-bound. Spring is the best time for repotting.

When repotting, choose a pot that’s 1-2 inches larger than the current one and use fresh potting mix.

Pest Control:

Green Flame Ferns are relatively pest-resistant, but you may occasionally encounter spider mites, mealybugs, or scale.

Regularly mist the plant and wipe the fronds to keep pests at bay. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil if necessary.

General Maintenance:

Rotate the plant every few weeks to ensure even growth, as ferns tend to lean toward light sources.

Wipe the fronds with a damp cloth to remove dust, as dust can hinder photosynthesis and attract pests.
