Dracaena Giganta 10”

Dracaena Giganta 10”

Light:

Bright, indirect light is ideal for Dracaena giganta. It can tolerate low light but may not grow as vigorously or produce as many leaves.

Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

Watering:

Allow the top 1-2 inches of soil to dry out before watering. Dracaena giganta prefers to be on the drier side, so avoid overwatering, which can lead to root rot.

Water less frequently in the winter when the plant is dormant.

Soil:

Use a well-draining potting mix. A standard houseplant mix combined with perlite or sand for better drainage is recommended.

Ensure the pot has drainage holes to prevent waterlogging.

Temperature:

Dracaena giganta thrives in warm temperatures between 65-80°F

Protect the plant from cold drafts and temperatures below 50°F

Humidity:

This plant prefers moderate humidity but can adapt to average household levels.

If the air is particularly dry (especially in winter), consider misting the leaves or using a humidifier to increase humidity.

Fertilizing:

Fertilize with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer).

Reduce fertilizing in the fall and winter when the plant’s growth slows down.

Pruning and Maintenance:

Remove any dead or yellowing leaves to keep the plant healthy and maintain its appearance.

You can also trim back any leggy growth to encourage a fuller shape.

Repotting:

Repot every 2-3 years or when the plant becomes root-bound. Choose a slightly larger pot with fresh potting mix.

The best time to repot is in the spring when the plant is actively growing.

Propagation:

Dracaena giganta can be propagated through stem cuttings. Take a cutting from a healthy plant, let it callous over for a few days, and then place it in water or moist soil until roots develop.

Pests:

Keep an eye out for common pests such as spider mites, mealybugs, and aphids. Treat infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil.

Ensure good air circulation around the plant to help prevent pest problems.

Toxicity:

Dracaena giganta is toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Keep the plant out of reach of curious pets and children.
