Dieffenbachia Camo 6”

Dieffenbachia Camo 6”

Light
- Dieffenbachia ‘Camo’ prefers bright, indirect light. While it can tolerate lower light conditions, its leaves will show better variegation in brighter spots.
- Avoid direct sunlight, as it can cause the leaves to scorch.

Watering
- Keep the soil evenly moist, but allow the top 1-2 inches of soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so it’s important not to let the plant sit in water.
- Water less frequently during the winter when the plant’s growth slows down.

Humidity

- This plant enjoys moderate to high humidity. To increase humidity, you can mist the plant, place it on a humidity tray, or keep it in a naturally humid room like a bathroom.
- If the air is too dry, the leaf edges may begin to brown.

Temperature
- Dieffenbachia ‘Camo’ prefers warm conditions, thriving in temperatures between 65-80°F. It does not like cold drafts or temperatures below 60°F.
- Protect the plant from sudden temperature changes and cold drafts, especially during winter.

Soil
- Use a well-draining, peat-based potting mix. A mix of peat moss, perlite, and regular potting soil works well to maintain moisture without causing waterlogging.
- Ensure the pot has drainage holes to prevent excess water from accumulating.

Fertilizing
- Feed the plant with a balanced liquid fertilizer once a month during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce feeding during the fall and winter when the plant’s growth naturally slows down.

Repotting
- Repot the Dieffenbachia ‘Camo’ every 1-2 years, or when it becomes root-bound. Spring is the best time for repotting. Choose a pot that is 1-2 inches larger in diameter to give the plant room to grow.
- Always use fresh, well-draining soil during repotting.

Pruning
- Remove any yellowing or damaged leaves by cutting them at the base of the stem. This will help improve the plant’s appearance and encourage healthy growth.
- If the plant becomes too tall or leggy, you can trim the stem to maintain a bushier, more compact form.

Pests
- Dieffenbachia can be susceptible to spider mites, aphids, and scale insects. Check the undersides of the leaves regularly for pests and treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil if necessary.

Toxicity

- Caution: Dieffenbachia plants contain calcium oxalate crystals, which can be toxic to pets and humans if ingested. The sap may also cause skin irritation, so wear gloves when handling or pruning the plant.

Special Considerations
- Rotate the plant regularly to ensure even growth and prevent it from leaning toward the light.
- Wipe the leaves occasionally with a damp cloth to remove dust, which can block light from reaching the leaves and reduce photosynthesis.
