Candelabra Cactus 6”

The Candelabra Cactus (Euphorbia ingens) is a striking succulent that resembles a cactus but is actually a member of the Euphorbia family. It is easy to care for if given the right conditions.

Light:

• Prefers bright, indirect light to full sun.

• Can tolerate some shade but thrives with at least 6 hours of sunlight daily.

• If grown indoors, place near a south- or west-facing window.

Watering:

• Water sparingly; allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings.

• In spring and summer, water every 2-3 weeks.

• In fall and winter, reduce watering to once a month or less.

• Avoid overwatering, as root rot is a common issue.

Temperature & Humidity:

• Prefers warm temperatures (65-85°F / 18-29°C).

• Protect from cold drafts and frost (keep above 50°F / 10°C).

• Tolerates low humidity but prefers a dry environment.

Soil:

• Use a well-draining cactus or succulent mix.

• Adding sand or perlite improves drainage.

Fertilizing:

• Feed with a diluted cactus fertilizer once a month in spring and summer.

• No need to fertilize in fall and winter.

Pruning & Maintenance:

• Prune damaged or overgrown branches with sterile shears.

• Handle with care—its milky white sap is toxic and can cause skin irritation.

Pests & Problems:

• Watch for mealybugs, spider mites, and scale insects. Treat with neem oil or insecticidal soap.

• Yellowing or mushy stems indicate overwatering.

• Wrinkled or shriveled stems mean it needs more water.
