Light:

• Indoors: Place caladiums in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch their delicate leaves.

• Outdoors: Provide partial to full shade, as too much sun can cause the leaves to fade or burn.

Temperature:

• Keep them in a warm environment, ideally between 65–85°F 

• Avoid temperatures below 60°F, as caladiums are sensitive to cold.

Watering:

• Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water thoroughly when the top inch of soil feels dry.

• Reduce watering in the fall when the plant begins to go dormant.

Humidity:

• Caladiums thrive in high humidity. Increase humidity by misting the leaves, using a humidifier, or placing a water tray with pebbles near the plant.

• Avoid placing them in areas with dry air, such as near heaters or air conditioners.

Soil:

• Use a well-draining, rich potting mix. Adding organic matter like peat or compost helps retain moisture while preventing waterlogging.

Fertilizer:

• Feed caladiums with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 4–6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer).

• Stop fertilizing when the plant enters dormancy in the fall.

Dormancy Care:

• Caladiums are tuberous plants that go dormant in the fall. When leaves start to die back:

• Stop watering and let the soil dry out.

• Remove the tubers from the soil, clean them, and store them in a cool, dry place (around 50–60°F)

• Replant the tubers in fresh soil in the spring.

Pruning:

• Remove yellowing or dead leaves to encourage healthy growth and maintain the plant’s appearance.

Pests and Diseases:

• Watch for pests like spider mites, aphids, and mealybugs. Treat infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil.

• Prevent fungal issues by avoiding water on the leaves and ensuring good air circulation.
