Light
-
Ideal: Bright, indirect light.
-
Tolerates: Low-light conditions, but variegation may fade in very dim spots.
-
Avoid: Direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
Water
-
Water when the top 1–2 inches (2.5–5 cm) of soil are dry.
-
Keep soil evenly moist, but never soggy.
-
Reduce watering frequency in winter.
Humidity
-
Prefers moderate to high humidity, but is adaptable to average indoor levels.
-
Boost humidity with:
-
Pebble trays
-
Misting (occasionally)
-
Grouping with other plants
-
Humidifiers (especially in dry climates)
-
Temperature
-
Optimal: 65–80°F (18–27°C)
-
Avoid cold drafts and temps below 60°F (15°C).
Soil
-
Use a well-draining potting mix—a general indoor mix with perlite or orchid bark works well.
-
Good drainage is essential to prevent root rot.
Fertilizer
-
Feed every 4–6 weeks during the growing season (spring to early fall) with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength.
-
No fertilizer needed in winter.
Potting & Repotting
-
Repot every 2–3 years or when roots outgrow the pot.
-
Choose a pot with drainage holes.
-
Aglaonema doesn’t mind being slightly root-bound.
Pruning
-
Remove yellowing or damaged leaves to encourage fresh growth.
-
Can be trimmed to maintain bushy shape.
